Are you ready to swap Bali’s bustling beaches for the raw, dramatic beauty of its neighboring island? Nusa Penida offers spectacular cliffs, turquoise waters, and world-famous viewpoints, all easily accessible in a single, unforgettable day trip.
This guide provides the perfect, stress-free itinerary to hit the island’s most iconic spots. All you need is your camera, sunscreen, and sense of adventure!
The Early Start: Crossing the Strait
Your adventure begins early to maximize your time on the island.
- 07:30 AM – Meeting Point at Sanur Beach: This is your crucial meeting time. You must check in with the fast boat booth, confirm your attendance, and collect your tickets. Don’t be late—the boats operate on a tight schedule!
- 08:00 AM – Fast Boat Departure: Board your speed boat for the approximately 45-minute crossing over the Badung Strait towards Nusa Penida.
- 08:45 AM – Arrival at Nusa Penida Port: Upon arrival, look for your friendly local driver who will be waiting with a nameplate clearly displaying your name. You’ll immediately hop into the car to start your exploration of the western route.
️ West Nusa Penida: The Iconic Viewpoints
The western side of the island is home to the most famous, jaw-dropping cliffs and coves.
09:50 AM – Kelingking Beach (The T-Rex Cliff)

This is arguably the most famous spot on the island. Kelingking (which means “pinky finger”) is known for its incredible cliff formation that remarkably resembles a T-Rex dinosaur head reaching into the ocean. You will spend about an hour here taking in the breathtaking panorama from the top viewpoint. Due to the limited time on a day trip, we will not hike down the challenging path to the beach below.
11:00 AM – Pasih Uug (Broken Beach)

Next, you will arrive at Pasih Uug, or Broken Beach. This unique natural attraction features a spectacular circular cliff formation with an archway carved out by the ocean, creating a natural sea pool within the cove. It’s a fantastic spot to capture wide, dramatic photos of the landscape.
12:00 PM – Angel’s Billabong

Just a stone’s throw away from Broken Beach is Angel’s Billabong. This is a stunning natural rock lagoon that forms a clear, emerald-green infinity pool. It’s framed by craggy volcanic rock, offering a truly unique sight where the water dramatically meets the ocean. Note: Swimming here is usually restricted and depends heavily on tidal conditions for safety.
Lunch & Relaxation
After soaking up all those incredible views, it’s time to recharge.
- 12:30 PM – Heading for Lunch: Your driver will take you to a clean and convenient local restaurant where you can enjoy a satisfying Indonesian lunch to power you up for the afternoon.
02:00 PM – Crystal Bay Beach

Your final major stop is the beautiful Crystal Bay Beach. This is your chance to trade the dramatic cliffs for some relaxing beach time. Crystal Bay is famous for its clear, calm waters, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the shade of the coconut palm trees before you head back to Bali.
The Return Journey
All good things must come to an end, and it’s time to head back to the main island.
- 04:30 PM – Back to Port: Your driver will ensure you are transferred back to the Nusa Penida port with plenty of time to check in for your return trip.
- 05:00 PM – Fast Boat Departure: Board the fast boat for your 45-minute ride back to Sanur.
- 05:45 PM – Arrived in Sanur: You will arrive back at Sanur Beach, concluding your memorable and photo-filled Nusa Penida day trip!
Key Takeaways for a Seamless Trip
- Book Your Tour: Pre-booking a package that includes the fast boat and a private driver is the most efficient way to do this trip.
- Wear Sneakers: The roads are bumpy and the paths to the viewpoints are rocky.
- Bring Water and Sunscreen: The sun is strong, and hydration is key!
