The unique mobil temple – Bali is a thousand temple island. There is a unique temple in Nusa Penida in Karangdawa, Bungamekar village. It is named as Pura Mobil (mobil temple). It is a different sacred temple compared to other temples in Bali.
The History of Mobil Temple (Pura Mobil)
the temple seems like other common temples in Bali but actually it has its own uniqueness. There are two shrines in the temple which look like cars, a Jimmy and Volkswagen beetle car. According to citizens, the cars are representations of the four wheel vehicles of God named Ida Gede Ratu Sakti Hang Mami. When the temple festival is held, some of the prayers will be tranced and they ask for a shrine which looks like car. Therefore, car shrines are made in the temple.
The jimmy car is dedicated as the shrine of Ratu Gede Sakti Hyang Mami and the Volkswagen beetle is the representation of her followers’ vehicle. Besides of the trance, another sign for building the car shrines came from the citizen’s experience. Most of them heard the sound of cars and the horns from the side of the temple at night. The priest told that about 50 years ago where there were no motorbikes, the citizens went to market on foot and on their way to market at dawn, they heard the sound of cars from the temple.
The Pura Mobil (mobil temple) festival
The festival is held on Tumpek Krulut (based on Balinese calendar). The citizens said there are a lot of monkeys around the temple but when the temple festival is held, there will be no monkeys around the temple. For visitors who want to visit the temple, they are allowed to enter the temple but they have to wear a polite traditional clothes.
